Henry W. Humpal

Henry W. Humpal, 84, of Spillville, died of an apparent heart attack at his home Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998.

A funeral mass was held Saturday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, with the Rev. Donald Hawes officiating.

Doris Thompson was the organist. Dan Silhacek was the-soloist. Casket bearers were Charles Humpal, Melvin Rausch, Kenneth Shimek, John Humpal, Merle Hageman and Larry Svoboda.

Interment was at the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Spillville. The Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Henry was born July 27, 1914 in rural Ridgeway, the son of William and Barbara (Triska) Humpal. He attended Winneshiek County country school and St. Wenceslaus School in Spillville.

Henry served in the United States Army during World War II, from Nov. 15, 1941, until June 27, 1945. He received a Purple Heart after being wounded in France.

He lived on a farm east of Ridgeway. Henry moved to Spillville and operated his electronic and TV repair shop there. He was a member of the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and the Spillville American Legion. He never married.

Survivors include one brother, Albert and Marcella Humpal of Ridgeway, and nieces and nephews.

Henry Humpal was preceded in death by his parents.
