Martin Frana

Martin Frana, 83, of Spillville, died Friday, March 5, 1999, at his home, of apparent heart failure. He had been ill for two years.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 9, at. 11 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, with the Rev. Donald Hawes officiating.

Doris Thompson will be the organist. Danny Silhacek will be the soloist.

Casket bearers will be grandsons Ken, Brian, Marty and Aaron Frana, nephew Norbert Ira and nephew Martin Koudelka. Honorary bearers will be the Catholic Workman.

Burial will be at the church cemetery. The Balik Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Martin was born Nov. 11, 1915, in Winneshiek County, the son of Joseph and Anna (Humpal) Frana. He attended a Winneshiek County country school.

On Aug. 30, 1937, he was united in marriage with Hattie Ira at Protivin.

Martin farmed the family farm for 40 years. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, the Elks, and the Catholic Workman.

Survivors include his wife, Hattie; five children, Charles and Doris Frana of Calmar, Judy Frana of Ames, Connie Frana and Mikael Jones of Roseburg, Ore., Barbara and Don Hunt of Aurora, Colo., and Noel and Linda Frana of Calmar; four grandchildren, Ken, Brian, Mary and Aaron Frana, all of Calmar; one great-granddaughter, Hattie Lee Frana; two sisters, Nettie Hrdlicka of Cresco and Pauline Bouska of Fort Atkinson; and many nieces and nephews.
