Richard Joseph Balik

Richard Balik, 76, of, rural Fort Atkinson, died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at his home after a short illness. A funeral mass was held Monday, July 19, at 11 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, with the Rev. Donald Hawes officiating.

Mary Beth Bouska was the organist. Colleen Busta was the soloist. Jim Busta was the lector. Offertory gifts were received by Karen Kuhn, Lori Meyer and Jerry Busta. Servers were Jenny Kuhn and Samantha Boland. Eucharistic ministers were Barb and Mary Lou Busta.

Casket bearers were Danny Busta, Allan Busta, Scott Busta, Ed Panos Jr., Dale Balik, Paul Gebel, Tim Ryan and Tom Busta. Honorary bearers were members of Catholic Workman Branch No. 33 of Spillville.

Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Spillville. The Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Richard Joseph Balik was born March 7, 1923, the son of John and Rose (Schwade) Balik.

On Oct. 21, 1946, he was married to Arlene Berka. To this union one son was born, Larry.

Arlene died July 23,1949. .

On Nov. 14, 1951 Richard was married to Gladys Busta at the Assumption Catholic Church in Little Turkey. To this union, six children were born: Ron, Ken, Joe, Donna, Jeannie and Sue.

Richard was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, playing cards, dancing and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys; and his seven children, Larry and Hermie Balik of Jupiter, Fla.; Ron Balik and Barb Dunston of Charles City; Ken Balik and children Dawn and Michael of New Hampton; Joe and Sue Balik of Fort Atkinson; Donna and Kelvin Rue and children Travis and Kelly of Ridgeway; Jeannie Balik of Waverly; and Sue Craft and children Tyler and Alysa of Garner.

Also surviving are sisters Dorothy Bouska of Cresco, Helen and John Kout of Lawler and Evelyn Ryan of Decorah; and one brother, Raymond and Doris Balik of Protivin.

Richard Balik was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Arlene; his sister, Marie Balik; brothers-in-law Leonard Bouska and Ed Ryan; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Balik.
