Knute Roed
Knute Hindberg Roed, 92, of Spring Grove, Minn., and formerly of Decorah, died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at the Tweeten/Lutheran Health Care Center in Spring Grove.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 1, at 2 p.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, with the Rev. Jim Arends officiating. Burial was in the Hauge Church Cemetery of rural Decorah. The Roble Funeral Home of Spring Grove handled arrangements.
Knute Hindberg Roed was born Dec. 28, 1906, in rural Decorah, the son of Edward and Mathilda (Corsen Johnson) Roed. He attended rural Decorah schools.
In 1937, he married Evelyn Hellickson in Humboldt. She died Dec. 7, 1977.
Knute then married Myrtle Manning in 1980. She died in 1984.
He was married to Charlotte Forde in 1985.
Knute farmed in rural Decorah until 1963. He then did mechanic work and carpenter work. He built his own airplane and enjoyed flying. Knute was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Roed of Spring Grove, Minn.; one son, Roger and Beverly Roed of Decorah; two daughters: Joyce and Richard Nolz of Crystal, Minn., and Shirley and Raymond LaChapelle of Calhan, Colo.; two grandchildren, Kelly and Raymond LaChapelle III of Calhan, Colo.; many step-children and step-grandchildren; one brother, Bjarne Roed of Freeport; and one sister, Olga and Orlando Halverson of Decorah.
Knute Roed was preceded in death by his wives Evelyn and Myrtle; one daughter, Carmen K. Roed, who died Feb. 6, 1998; two brothers, Edwin and Harry; two sisters, Harriet and Hilna; and a step-daughter, Darlene Guberud.
