Barbara Johnson

Barbara Jean Johnson, 49, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., following complications from diabetes.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 8, at 10:30 a.m., at Glenwood Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Susan Debner officiating.

Burial was at Pontoppidan Cemetery, rural Decorah. The French & Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Barbara (Onsager) Johnson was born Jan. 28, 1951, in Decorah, the daughter of Marvin and Lucille (Horan) Onsager. She attended Sheggrud Country School until sixth grade and then attended Decorah Schools, graduating in 1969.

She married Ray Johnson Aug. 7, 1971, in Decorah. Barbara ran her own daycare before working at the Cliff House, Jack & Jill, Morris' Eatery, and Kum & Go. Barb enjoyed babies and children. She was a member of
Glenwood Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Johnson; one sister, Mary Ann and David Sorum of Decorah; 12 nieces and nephews, Dr. Scot Sorum, Paul Sorum, Melissa Quillin and Brady Sorum, Shannon Onsager, Corey Onsager, Joshua Onsager, Michael Lindsay Onsager II, Danielle Onsager, and Michael, Jeffrey and Dawn Kruse.

Also surviving are three step-brothers, Everett Roland of Clermont, Jim Roland of Postville and Dave Roland of Florida; her step-mother,
LaVilla Onsager of Postville; her mother- and father-in-law, Darlyne and Donald Johnson of Decorah; her step-grandfather, Clem and Ruth Dinger of Decorah; two aunts, Gail and Jim Aim of Decorah, and Marian Horan of Decorah; one uncle, Nathan Onsager of Waukon; three great aunts, Adella Onsager of Decorah, Mary (Mrs. Pete) Onsager of Waukon and Mary (Mrs. Ed) Onsager of Waukon; and several cousins.

Barbara Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Lucille Onsager; one brother and one sister in infancy; and grandparents Tina Dinger, and Martin and Olga Onsager.
