Karen Bell

Karen Bell, 60, of Decorah, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at home after several years of illness with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

There was no visitation, as the body was cremated.

Services were held Wednesday, June 13 at 11 a.m. at Fjelstul Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating.

Guitarist was Tim Jackson, and musical selections included "Amazing Grace," Tomorrows Come and Go" and "In My Life."

Some of the ashes will be buried in Wilmont, Minn, and some will be scattered at Leach Lake, Minn.

Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah was in charge of arrangements.

Karen Schnitker was born Feb. 20, 1941 to Bob and Lucille Schnitker in Sioux City, Iowa.

She attended one year of nursing school, and worked as an LPN day care provider in St. Louis, Mo., and then as a secretary at Calmar Foods from 1990-1995.

She lived in Leech Lake, Minn., until the summer of 1999, when she moved next to her son, Shane Bell of Decorah and his family due to health reasons.

She was involved in the Missouri Egg Merchandising Council in egg promotion and was known as the "Egg Lady."

Karen Bell loved her family and friends, and enjoyed attending auctions and estate sales, going fishing, collecting antiques and going to casinos. She was an outgoing person who never met a stranger. Her three grandchildren were the lights of her life.

Survivors include her mother, Lucille Schnitker; children, Shane and Sara Bell of Decorah; three grandchildren; three brothers: Kasey Schnitker of Heidelburg, Germany; Kirk Schnitker of Champlin, Minn. and Ken Schnitker of New Brighton, Minn.; four sisters: Korky (or Karey) Schnitker of Chicago, Illinois; Kolene Logan of Palmdale, Calif.; Kris Jackson of Apple Valley, Minn., and Kelly Schuster of Apple Valley.

Karen Bell was preceded in death by her father and a daughter, Molly Marie Bell.
