Rose Anna Rothmeyer

Rose Rothmeyer, 94, of Festina, died Thursday, June 14, 2001 at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian.

A Mass of Christian Burial service was held Monday, June 18 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Seven Dolars Catholic Church in Festina with Msgr. Cletus Hawes officiating.

Music was provided by organist Annette Walter, soloist Sue Rothmeyer and Our Lady of Seven Dolars choir.

Lector was Pat Tekippe.

Mass servers were Abe Tekippe, Katie Luzum and Sara Lensing.

A poem, "I'm Free" was read by Jenny Sunde.

Gift bearers were Robert Kelt, Tori Sunde and Kristie Schroeder.

Casket bearers were Monica Kelt, Sandy Sunde, Scott Rothmeyer, Jacob Rothmeyer, Sue Rothmeyer, Lisa Schroeder, Pat Rothmeyer and Brian Rothmeyer.

Interment was in Our Lady of Seven Dolars Cemetery in Festina, with arrangements provided by French Funeral Home of Calmar.

Rose Anna (Gerleman) Rothmeyer was born March 18, 1907, the daughter of Anton and Christine (Wiltgen) Gerleman near Calmar.

She attended school at St. Francis de Sales Catholic School in Ossian.

She married Herbert Rothmeyer Oct. 16, 1928 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. They were the parents of five children.

Rose and Herbert Rothmeyer farmed all of their lives near Calmar and then moved to the Rothmeyer family farm near Festina March 1, 1951.

Rose Rothmeyer entered the New Hampton Care Center Jan. 20, 1992 and later moved to the Ossian Hospice Sept. 1, 1992.

She enjoyed being with her family when they visited and also liked to play cards and bingo and to take care of her garden.

Survivors include her three sons: Linus and Elsie Rothmeyer of Calmar; Larry and Sandy Rothmeyer of Festina and Lester and Elizabeth Rothmeyer of Aurora, Colo.; two daughters, Ruth Huber of Boscobel, Wis. and Rosetta and Gerald Schmitt of St. Lucas; one brother Ruby Gerleman of Calmar and one sister, Phil and Ed Lis of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Mary Kay Gerleman; several nieces and nephews and 21 grandchildren and 21 greatgrandchildren.

Rose Anna (Gerleman) Rothmeyer was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert Rothmeyer, June 20, 1965; two sons in infancy; two grandchildren: Rose Huber and Joseph Huber; four brothers: Albert, Leo, Andy and Gus Gerleman and one sister, Gennieve Rothmeyer.
