Christopher was born in Decorah July 22, 1974, the son of Leland and Connie (Dybvik) Hovey. He was baptized and confirmed at Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony.

He graduated from Crestwood High School and worked in various farming endeavors after high school. He had been farming with his parents.

Chris is remembered as bringing a smile wherever he was and being genuine in all he did. He enjoyed kids. They would look up at him and call him "Bubba". He had a special place in his heart for his niece, Kaylyn.

He enjoyed time with family and friends and never missed a good time if it could be helped. He never missed a chance to pick on someone because that was his way of showing he cared. He liked to argue for the sport of it.

He started riding ponies and then rode horses as he got bigger. He often bragged of his horse, Sophie, as well as his Percheron mare Pearl and her colt, Mini Pearl. Chris enjoyed showing Pearl. He also taught many neighbor-hood kids how to ride.

Chris's constant companion was Kate, his dog. She fared well in his care. Chris also enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting pool, snowmobiling and laughing.

Survivors include his parents, Leland and Connie Hovey of Harmony, Minn.; two sisters, Dawn and Regan Kucera of Madison, Neb., and their daughter, Kaylyn Rae; and Erin Hovey and fiance Darrin Ludwig of Elma; and three grandparents, Orval and Hazel Dybvik of Canton, Minn., and Dorothy Hovey of Cresco.

Christopher Hovey was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles Hovey; and an uncle, Chuck Hovey.
