Edward L. Clement
Edward L. Clement, 87, of Decorah, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at the Aase Haugen Home after a short illness.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 10, at 1:30 p.m., at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, with the Rev. Kim Smith officiating.
Paul Bruvold was the organist. Hymns included "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art."
Casket bearers were Jeff Clement, Scott Clement, Jim Hennessy, John Hegg, Mark Soland and Daryl Bergan.
Interment was at the church cemetery. The French & Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Edward was born March 10, 1913, the son of Edgar and Clara (Wangsness) Clement, on the home farm near Washington Prairie Lutheran Church.
He was baptized April 6, 1913, and confirmed June 17, 1928. Ed attended Red Oak Country School near the church and then Decorah High School, where he played football.
Ed married Jennie Linderbaum Sept. 1, 1935, at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. He was a member of this same church, serving as a trustee. Ed was the fourth generation to farm the family farm and was proud to have the sixth generation living there. He farmed with his son, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed farming, his grandchildren, fishing in Canada, visiting friends and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Jennie; one son, Wayne and Ginny Clement of Decorah; three grandchildren, Jeff Clement and fiancee Colleen of Iowa City, Katie Clement and fiance Jim Hennessy of Waukon, and Scott Clement of Decorah; one brother, Willard Clement of Ossian; two sisters, Kathryn Hoyme of Decorah and Lila and Evart Hughes of Decorah; and several nieces and nephews.
Edward Clement was preceded in death by his parents.
