Walter Ward, Sr.

Walter "Fish" Ward Sr., 98, of Harmony , Minn., and formerly of the Mabel, Minn., and Burr Oak areas, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at the Harmony Health Care Center in Harmony, Minn.

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m., at the Canton-Scotland Presbyterian Church in Canton, Minn., with the Rev. Jim Scaife
officiating.

Burial was at the Mabel Public Cemetery in Mabel. The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel handled arrangements.

Walter was born June 21, 1902, in Henrytown, Minn., the son of Isaac and Maria (Connelly) Ward. He attended school in Henrytown and on Feb. 18, 1925, he was married to Margaret Rice in Canton.

They farmed in the Canton and Mabel, Minn. and Burr Oak areas until retirement in 1968. They lived in rural Mabel until seven years ago when Margaret died.

Walter moved into the Harmony Health Care Center at that time and had lived there since then.

He was a member of the Canton-Scotland Presbyterian Church and enjoyed gardening and dartball.

Survivors include four sons, Robert and Marleene Ward of Mabel, Minn., Jimmie and Valli Ward of Cresco, Walter Jr. and Carol Ward of Harmony, Minn., and Earl Ward of Minneapolis, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; 26 greatgrandchildren; one great-greatgrandchild; and nieces and nephews.

The 11 grandchildren are Dwight (Joan), Marcia Ward (Mrs. Bob Tasca), Douglas (Traci), Michael (Bonnie), Larry (Maureen), Renae (Mrs. Charles Zumwalt), Jim, Gerri Lou (Mrs. Gary) Ehler, Terri Sue (Mrs. Tom) Peterson, Gary (Jackie) and Kim (Mrs. Kevin) Knutson.

Walter Ward, Sr. was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; a grandson, Durwin; a granddaughter, Lori Ann Ward; three sisters, Bernice, Sadie and Mabel; and seven brothers, Matt, Ray, Charlie, Earl, Harry, Frank and Merlin.
