VICTOR BENESH, 83, of Spillville, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

Funeral Mass was Wednesday, Dec. 27 at 11 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, with Rev. Robert Hirsch officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery, with Balik Funeral Home of Spillville handling arrangements.

Surviving Victor Benesh is a brother, Richard Benesh of Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Victor Stanley Benesh

Victor Benesh, 83, of Spillville died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah following a short illness.

Funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, with Rev. Robert Hirsch officiating.

Organist was Al Sensor and Soloist was Don DiLaura.

Casket bearers were Alvin Tupy, Daniel Swehla, Victor Kovarik, Morris Bergen, Rudy Humpal and Gene Reicks.

Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Spillville, with Balik Funeral Home in Spillville handling arrangements.

Victor Stanley Benesh was born Nov. 14, 1917, in Spillville to Joseph and Eleanora (Valenta) Benesh. He attended Spillvlle schools and attended high school in Orin, Iowa where his brother was teaching.

In Dec. of 1940, Victor Benesh enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He served on Tinian and Mariana Islands, South Pacific Theatre during World War II. Other foreign tours of duty included Clark Field in the Philippine Islands, Japan, Greenland, Germany, Turkey and Libya.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force in June 1963.

Victor Benesh enjoyed hunting, fishing, feeding birds and taking care of his cats. He enjoyed being outdoors and doing things that involved nature.

He was a member of the Spillville American Legion and St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.

Surviving Victor Benesh is a brother, Richard Benesh, of Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Victor Stanley Benesh was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marcella Benesh.
