Harold Henry Blomgren

Harold Blomgren, 86, of Cresco, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday May 16, at 11 a.m., at the First Lutheran Church in Cresco, with the Rev. Gary Lee presiding.

Paul Grover and Burdette Keune will be ushers. Grandchildren will serve as casket bearers.

Honorary bearers will be Charles Miller, Paul Ristau, Don Burr, Robert Byrnes, Ray Baumgartner, Elmer Sjurson, Ronald Bronner and Eugene Bronner.

Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery. The Conway Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Harold Henry Blomgren was born Oct. 3, 1913, in Bluffton Township of Winneshiek County, the son of Elmer and Ida (Hermann) Blomgren. He was the oldest of seven children.

He was baptized in the Lutheran faith Nov. 16, 1913, and confirmed Nov. 19, 1961.

Harold completed the 8th grade, in the rural schools of Howard County. He served less than a year in the Civilian Conservation Corps, while is (sic) was stationed in Cresco.

On Oct. 8, 1938, he was united in marriage with Sara Elizabeth Offen in the Presbyterian parsonage in Mason City. Two children were born to this union, Eugene and Sharon.

Harold worked as a hired farm laborer, then in 1945 they started farming on their own. In 1955 they bought a farm in Orleans Township of Winneshiek County. They farmed there for 40 years, then sold the farm and moved to Cresco.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Sarah; children Eugene and Judy Blomgren of Spring Valley, Minn., and Sharon Bronner of Cresco; five grandchildren, James Blomgren and wife Brenda, Deanna Henderson, Kristine and husband Tom Combs, Bryon Bronner and wife Heather, and Leanna and husband Nick Halfhill; eight greatgrandchildren, Jennifer Henderson, Laura and Steven Blomgren, Nicole and Miranda Combs, and Jessica, Joshua and Hannah Bronner; two sisters, Fern Schmauss of Cresco and Violet Pedersen of Mabel, Minn.; one uncle, Ray Blomgren of Rochester, Minn.; and one aunt, Minnie Phillips of Texas.

Harold Blomgren was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lyle and Marvin; and two sisters, Gladys Hart and Lillian Bujan.
