Mary Lorraine Macha

Mary Lorraine Macha, 77, of rural Mabel, Minn, died Thursday, March 23, 2000 at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel from complications of Parkinson's Disease.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 27 at the Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper with the Rev. Hans Roan officiating. Interment was at the Hesper Public Cemetery.

Mary Lorraine Whalen was born to John and Anna (Kimball) Whalen on July 18, 1922 in Cresco. She graduated from Decorah High School in 1939 and then taught rural elementary school in Winneshiek County.

On June 29, 1944, Mary married Thomas Macha at the Methodist parsonage in McGregor. Mary joined Tom in farming and lived their entire married life on the family farm in Hesper Township.

Mary was an active member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries, and served the community in offices at the local and district levels.

She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering and gardening.

Mary is survived by her husband Thomas of Mabel; two daughters: Eileen Poole of Warren, Ohio, and Denise (Mrs. Harold) Pederson of Mabel; one granddaughter, Vanessa (Mrs. Rick) Teuscher of Warren, Ohio; and one sister, Ann (Mrs. Jack) Courtney of Decorah.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
