Barbara Jean Novak

Barbara Jean Novak, 92, of Spillville, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at the Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah.

A funeral mass was held Saturday, Nov. 27, at 11 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, with the Rev. Donald Hawes officiating.

Doris Thompson was the organist. Jeff Adams was the soloist.

Casket bearers were Jim Balik, Bob Novak, Lester Lechtenberg, Mark Novak, Jack Zoulek and Gerry Weiand.

Interment was at the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Spillville. The Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Barbara (Klimesh) Novak was born Jan. 17, 1907, near Spillville, the daughter of Joseph and Barbara (Kortan) Klimesh.

Barbara attended school in Spillville, Calmar High School and Upper Iowa University in Fayette.

She taught in the rural country schools for a short time.

On Sept. 14, 1935, she married Roy V. Novak at the log chapel on the Notre Dame University campus in South Bend, Ind.

Barbara lived in Spillville until moving to the Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah.

Survivors include one son, Tim and Cheryl Novak of Spillville; four grandchildren, Jenny Lynch of Monroe, La., Mike Lynch of Germany, Kris Lynch of Spillville and Greg Novak of Spillville; six greatgrandchildren, Jason, Christopher, Nichole, Jennifer, Michael and Timothy; and a sister, Hattie Jirak of Decorah.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy, who died in 1973; three brothers, George, Joseph and Frank Klimesh; and eight sisters, Josephine, Cecelia, Viola, Helen and Mary Klimesh; Celia Humpal and Agnes Jarosh.
