Marilyn Cook

Marilyn J. Cook, 70, of Decorah, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m., at Decorah Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James Glesne officiating.

Renae Mclntosh will be the soloist and she will sing "In the Garden." Congregational hymns will be "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art." The organist will be Alan Sensor.

Casket bearers will be her nephews, Scott Earth, Eric Earth, Keith Jones, Larry Melaas, Tom Decker, Matthew Barth and Mark Vick, and friend Byron Schultz.

Burial will be at Phelps Cemetery in Decorah. The French & Balik Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday, Dec. 9, from 4-8 p.m., with a women's V.F.W. Auxiliary service at 5 p.m., and Friday at the church one hour before service.

Marilyn (Barth) Cook was born March 10, 1929, in Winneshiek County, at the home of her parents, Alfred and Mae (Peterson) Barth. She attended school at Hesper Township School.

She was baptized April 14, 1929, and confirmed Nov. 14, 1943, at Hauge Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Carl Losen.

Marilyn was married to Duane Edward Cook Jan. 29, 1955, at the Hauge Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Glen Vanderbilt. To this union six children were born: Larry Duane, Connie Mae, Thomas William, Bruce Edward, Patricia Ann and Ricky Dean.

Marilyn enjoyed her flower gardens, putting puzzles together and doing hand embroidery work. She also enjoyed going to coffee with friends, playing cards and watching the Atlanta Braves' baseball games.

A member of Decorah Lutheran Church, Marilyn also belonged to the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Duane of Decorah; six children, Larry and Deb Cook of Decorah, Connie and Myles Gerleman of Decorah, Thomas and Leslie Cook of Decorah, Bruce and Debbie Cook of Clear Lake, Patricia and Paul Casterton of Decorah, and Ricky and Denise Cook of Decorah; and 10 grandchildren, Heidi and Dave Coulter, Tonya Cook, Casey Lee Cook, John Budweg, Ross Budweg, Peter Gerleman, Cody Cook, David Cook and Augusta Casterton.

Also surviving are five brothers, Alton and Barb Barth of Decorah, Ronald and Dorothy Barth of Cedar Rapids, Bernard and Karen Barth of Cedar Rapids, Gordon and Gert Barth of Decorah, and Paul and Vicki Barth of Denver, Iowa; two sisters, Gloria and Gordon Vick of Lewiston,. Minn., and Yvonne and Kenny Barnes of Decorah; five aunts, lone Aanas of St. Paul, Minn., Anna Swayn of Austin, Minn., Wilma Barth of Cedar Rapids, Lulu Barth of Independence, and Mildred Haugen of Decorah; and one uncle, Albert Peterson of Decorah.

Marilyn Cook was preceded in death by her parents and one niece, Wanda Hackman.
