Doloris "Dodie" Henning,77, of Jefferson died Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 6, at 2 p.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson, with the Rev. David Simonson officiating.
Music was provided by Sheryl Sloan, organist, Larry Dowd and Lilli Marlene. Ushers were Charles Trost and Don Yepsen.
Additional services were held Monday, June 7, at 11 a.m., at the First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Kay Slocum officiating.
Music was by the Rev. Jay and Donna Jentink.
Casket bearers were Wally Sersland, Francisco Ochoa, Juan Ochoa, Joel Ellickson, David Sorum, Ray Joe Johnson and Michael Onsager.
Graveside services were held Monday, June 7, at Phelps Cemetery in Decorah, at 3 p.m. The Hastings Funeral Home of Jefferson handled arrangements.
Doloris Theressa was born Jan. 14, 1922, on her parent's farm near Decorah, the daughter of Daniel Horan and Tina Bernette (Indvick) Horan.
Dodie, as she was known, attended and graduated from Decorah High School, where she received her teaching certificate. She was employed by the Cedar Rapids School System. Dodie had also worked at Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids and for the office of Senator John Culver.
On Dec. 7, 1940, she was united in marriage with Robert Kroupa. They were the parents of four children, Rebecca, Robert, Craig and Jeffrey. The couple made their home in Cedar Rapids.
In 1990 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. In 1991, Robert died.
At a 14th Armored Division reunion in Columbus, Ohio, Dodie met George Henning. On Nov. 18, 1994, they were married in Decorah. The couple made their home in Jefferson.
Dodie enjoyed dancing, listening to music, bird watching and playing cards, especially pinochle. She enjoyed traveling. She visited many World War II locations, including sites of Robert Kroupa's capture and imprisonments, as well as Norway, Germany and France, and winter travels to Texas, Arizona, Hawaii and Mexico.
Dodie was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids and attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson.
She was a lifetime member of the American Ex-Prisoners of War, serving as secretary; a member of the 14th Armored Division Auxiliary and supported George's efforts to have an Army tank for a war memorial placed in Jefferson and also participated in Greene County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include her husband, George of Jefferson; three sons, Robert and Patti Kroupa of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Craig and Kristine Kroupa of Cedar Rapids and Jeffrey and Jamie Kroupa of Vinton; one daughter, Rebecca and Robert Dalessandro of Kure, Japan; nine grandchildren; one sister, Gail and James Alm of Decorah; her step-father, Clem Dinger of Decorah; and a sister-in-law, Marie Horan of Decorah.
Also surviving is George's family, with Dodie's step-daughters Christina
