Doris Rucker, 71, of Decorah, died Saturday, July 17, 1999, at the Aase Haugen Home.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 20, at 11 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Decorah, with the Rev. James Dale officiating.

Connie Bolson will be the organist. The congregation will sing "Amazing Grace," "All Things Bright and Beautiful" and "I Love to Tell the Story."

Casket bearers will be Loryl Bolson, Patrick Corrigan, Don A. Davis, Alert Folkedahl, Spencer D. Graves and Jack Nelson.

Burial will be at Phelps Cemetery. The Fjelstul Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be held at the church Tuesday, one hour before services.

Doris Eileen (Ustby) Rucker was born Jan. 25, 1928, in Onalaska, Wis., the daughter of Milo Oscar and Florence Ellen (Foran) Ustby, and the oldest of six children.

She grew up on a farm east of Mindoro, Wis., and graduated from Mindoro High School in 1945 as salutatorian, and from La Crosse (Wis.) State Teachers College in 1948.

She taught grade school for several years in the Mindoro and Melrose, Wis., area.

On June 18, 1948, she was united in marriage with Robert Zeman Rucker at Melrose Methodist Church. They lived in Melrose, Wis., and later moved to Waterloo, where their son, Kenneth Robert, was born In 1957.

Soon after, the family moved to a home that they had built east of Onalaska, Wis. In 1961 their son, Russell Joseph, was born, and in 1964 their daughter, Linnea Jill, was born, both in La Crosse.

About 1965, Robert started a paint contracting business and Doris served as bookkeeper and secretary. In 1972 the family moved to Austin, Minn., and in 1976 they moved to Decorah.

Doris was an active member of the Methodist Church in Decorah, as she had been in the other towns where she had lived. She enjoyed children and liked camping when her children were young. She enjoyed cultural events such as the Nordic Fest in Decorah. Doris also was an avid gardener.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Rucker of Decorah; two sons, Kenneth and Yvette Rucker of LeRoy, Minn., and Russell Rucker of Evansville, Wis.; one daughter Jill (Archer) of San Francisco, Calif; three brothers, Charles Ustby and Gene Ustby of Bangor, Wis., and Dale and Dorothy Ustby of Pine Island, Minn.; two sisters, Ruth and David Beer of Austin, Texas, and Lenore and Dan Strub of St. Paul, Minn.; and seven grandchildren, Benjamin Rucker of Japan; Sarah, Andrew and Rebecca Rucker of LeRoy, Minn; Natasha and Jay Grandhi of Cedar Falls; and Dylan Corrales of San Francisco, Calif.
