Raymond Uhlenhake

Raymond "Ray" J. Uhlenhake, 81, of Ossian, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis., after a short illness.

A funeral mass was held Friday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m., at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, with the Rev. Msgr. Cletus Hawes officiating.

Diane Stee was the organist. Tim Wiltgen was the lector. Song leader Denise Uhlenhake led the congregation in singing.

Gift carriers were Jenny Wickey, Bobbi Jo Matt, Amy Tooley and Stephanie Uhlenhake.

Casket bearers were Wayne Tieskoetter, James Elsbernd, Bill Reicks, Allan Schmitt, Norbert Bullerman and Kenneth Bullerman.

Honorary bearers were Amy Tooley, Ann McKim, Jenny Wickey, Sean Wickey, Michele Matt, Bobbi Jo Matt, Ben Matt, Chad Uhlenhake, Stephanie Uhlenhake, Bryan Uhlenhake, Travis Uhlenhake and Julie Uhlenhake.

Interment was at the church cemetery in Ossian. The Schmitz Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Raymond was born March 27, 1919, in rural Festina, the son of Theodore A. and Alice (Mansheim) Uhlenhake. He was baptized by the Rev. A. J. Rubly at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina.

Ray obtained his education by attending rural schools in his neighborhood. After that, he returned to work on the farm.

On Oct. 17, 1944, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Bullerman at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar. They established their home on the farm west of Ossian, where they also raised their family of five children. In June of 1986, they moved into Ossian.

Ray was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and its Rosary Society. He enjoyed card playing, fishing, having coffee with friends and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn of Ossian; two sons, Arthur Uhlenhake of Ossian, Jeff and Nancy Uhlenhake of Ossian; three daughters, Alice and Bill McKim of Streator, IL, Lois and Dave Sims of Palm Bay, Fla., and Evy and Robert Matt of Cedar Rapids.

Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Amy (Tony) Tooley, Ann McKim, Jenny Wickey, Sean Wickey, Michele Matt, Bobbi Jo Matt, Ben Matt, Chad Uhlenhake, Stephanie Uhlenhake, Bryan Uhlenhake, Travis Uhlenhake and Julie Uhlenhake; two great- grandchildren, Jessica Tooley and Dylan Tooley; and four sisters, Irene and Louis Tieskoetter of Ossian, Virginia and Norbert Reicks of Lawler, Ruth and Linus Elsbernd of Fort Atkinson, and Shirley and John Schmitt of Ossian.

Ray Uhlenhake was preceded in death by his father, Theodore in 1951; his mother, Alice in 1985; a sister, Lucille Uhlenhake as a young girl in 1935; and a brother, Walter Uhlenhake in infancy.
