Leona Ann Miller

Leona Ann Miller, 84, of Ossian, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at the Ossian Senior Hospice after a lengthy illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, March 1, at 11 a.m., at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, with the Rev. Msgr. Cletus Hawes and the Rev. Vincent Simon officiating.

Servers were Nathan Lansing, Jason Lansing and Sarah Gaughan. Gift bearers were LeAnn Gaughan and Andrea Miller. Eucharistic ministers were Denis Miller and sister Marian Einck.

Music was provided by organist Diane Stee, soloist/song leader Connie Becker and a piano solo by Christa Miller.

Casket bearers were Lloyd Hageman, Bruce Miller, Dean Miller, Duane Hageman, Alan Lansing and Kyle Miller. In honorary attendance was the Catholic Daughters of Americas Court No. 983.

Interment was at the St. Francis Cemetery in Ossian. The Schmitz Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Leona Ann (Becker) Miller was born in Springfield Township of Winneshiek County Feb. 17, 1916, the daughter of Joseph W. and Marie (Sudtelgte) Becker.

She was baptized in her faith at St. Francis de Sales Church at Ossian. She graduated from high school at Remsen.

On Nov. 24,1937, she was united in marriage to Joseph B. Miller at St. Francis de Sales Church. They farmed northwest of Ossian until they moved to town in December of 1978.

Leona was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, the Rosary Society, and the Catholic Daughters of America, Court No. 983. She was a past member of the Winneshiek County Farm Bureau, South Winn Golf Club and the Ossian Senior Citizens Club.

Survivors include her five children, Denis and Jeanette Miller of Ossian, Joyce and August Hageman of Ossian, LaVonne and Charles Morel of Naples, Fla., John "Jack" and Pam Miller of Ames, and Sharon and Jim Gaughan of Denison; 13 grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren; her sister, Viola Bonfig of Ossian; one brother, Edwin and Kay Becker of Long Beach, Calif.; and sisters-in-law Geneva Becker of Cresco, Victoria Becker of Ossian, Jackie Becker of San Diego, Calif., and Catherine Miller of San Marcos, Calif.

Leona Miller was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe, who died May 31, 1989; and three brothers, Leander, Clarence and Gerald Becker
