Carl Bernard Lansing

Carl Bernard Lansing, 87, formerly of Decorah and Ossian, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wis., following a long illness.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 6, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating.

Patty Lien was the lector. Alan Sensor was the organist. Joan Schissel was the cantor. Hymns included "Here I Am, Lord," "Be Not Afraid," "On Eagle's Wings" and "Let There Be Peace on Earth".

Casket bearers were Jerry Stortz, Francis Stortz, Mel Henneberry, Carroll Lansing, Mike Lechtenberg and Steve Lechtenberg.

Honorary bearers were George Peck, John Schmitt, Pete Franzen, Cletus Holthaus, Virgil Stortz, Dennis Miller and Leo Elsbernd.

Burial was at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery in Ossian. The French & Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Carl was born Jan. 24, 1912, in Ossian, the son of August and Mary (Kaut) Lansing.

He attended St. Francis de Sales School in Ossian. He married Mary Stortz March 4, 1946, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian.

Carl farmed in the Ossian area all his life. In 1981 he moved to Decorah. In 1993 he moved to LaCrosse, Wis., to be near his daughter.

Carl was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and the Ossian Knights of Columbus, where he served as past grand knight.

Survivors include four daughters, Mary and Robert Philips of Nashua, Sarah Kopski of La Crosse, Wis, Judith and Robert Carothers of Nelson, Wis., and Karen and David Libra of Roseville, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Mark and Laura Philips of Seattle, Wash., Gina Philips of LaCrosse, Wis., Matt Carothers of Menominee, Wis., Stephanie Carothers of LaCrosse, Wis., Geoffrey Kopski of LaCrosse, Wis., and Sam and Charlie Libra of Roseville, Minn.; and one great-grandchild, Kylie Buckna of Green Bay, Wis.

Carl Lansing was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary, who died Sept. 21, 1972; three brothers, Edmund, Walter and Aloysius; one sister, Stella Remke; and one son-in-law, William Kopski.
