Kenneth Wayne Rude

Kenneth Wayne Rude, 76, of Decorah, died Sunday, April 8, 2001 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 11, at 11 a.m., at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating.

Pallbearers were Sam Flottum, Keith Hemesath, Roger Jevne, Randy Rude, Cory Syverson, Kevin Syverson and David Wilkenson.

Alan Sensor was the organist. Joan Schissel was the cantor. The congregation sang "On Eagle's Wings", "Amazing Grace" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic".

Communion bearers were Jennifer Flottum, JoDee Jevne and Selena Wilkenson.

Full military rites were provided by the Helof-Holm V.F.W. Post No. 1977 and Bernatz-Symonds American Legion Post No. 163 and D.A.V. Homre-Giessen Chapter No. 8.

Kenneth Wayne Rude was born June 19, 1924 in Decorah to Hans and Clara (Qualley) Rude.

He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church, and attended Decorah schools.

He served in the U. S. Army during World War II in Africa, Germany, France and Italy. He married Rita Ann Brown Sept. 23, 1946 at St. Benedict Catholic Church. The couple had four daughters and one son.

Kenneth Rude had his own sanitation service in Decorah, and then worked at Carlson's, Holtz's Dairy and Farm Service.

He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church.

He was also involved in the V.F.W. and served as a volunteer fireman in Decorah. He was later employed as a fireman.

Survivors include his children, Jackie Rude of McAllen, Texas; Mary Wilkenson of Decorah; Kathi Rude of Decorah; Mark Rude of Winona, Minn., and Marlene and Harry Kreutzer of Decorah; four grandchildren; one step-granddaughter, six great grandchildren, two brothers, Charles (Gen) Rude of Decorah and Leon Rude of Cedar Rapids, a sister-in-law, Donna Rude of Decorah, and a beloved pet dog, "Louie".

Kenneth Wayne Rude was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rita Rude on Sept. 12, 1990, and by several brothers and sisters.
