Andrew Bernard Kruse

Andrew Bernard Kruse, 88, of Decorah and formerly of St. Lucas, died Monday, April 23, 2001 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah following a short illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, April 27, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating.

Music was provided by organist Alan Sensor and Cantor Joan Schissel. Hymn selections included "Only a Shadow", "How Great Thou Art", "Prayer of St. Francis" and "Peace is Flowing Like a River".

Casket bearers were Ron Lysne, Gary Rustad, Ray Johnson, Mark Hackman, Rich Amundson and Steve Courtney, Jr.

Interment was in St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery in Decorah, with French & Balik Funeral Home handling arrangements.

Andrew Bernard Kruse was born Dec. 31, 1912 to Bernard and Maggie (Steffes) Kruse on the family farm near St. Lucas.

He attended St. Luke's Catholic School and helped on the family farm.

He married Bernadette Tieskoetter Jan. 16, 1939 at St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson.

After they were married, the couple farmed near St. Lucas and then moved to Decorah in 1967.

Andrew Kruse worked for Construction Lumber, Decorah Memorial Company and Decorah Community Schools. He also helped take care of the community building at the fairgrounds.

He volunteered for SHARE and headstart, and received the Governor's Volunteer Certificate for his work with the Governor's Commodity Program.

He enjoyed gardening, watching cars enter the fairgrounds, visiting with people and going to auctions at the fairgrounds.

He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah.

Survivors include his wife, Bernadette Kruse of Decorah; one daughter, Elaine (Victor) Hageman of Des Moines; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Betty Kruse of St. Lucas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Maggie Kruse; one bother, Alois Kruse and two sisters, Teresa and Nick Halbur and Barbara Kruse.

Services to be held for Andrew Kruse
Funeral services for Andrew B. Kruse of Decorah, formerly of St. Lucas, will be held at
10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 27 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah. The Rev. Gary Krapfl will officiate.
Friends may call on Thursday, April 26 at the French and Balik Funeral Home from 3:00-8:00 p.m. and also at the church on Friday after 9:30 a.m. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday.
Andrew, 88, died Monday, April 23, 2001 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah following a short illness.
Survivors include his wife Bernadette of Decorah and one daughter: Elaine Hageman of Des Moines.
