Kenneth J. McConnell

Kenneth J. McConnell, 70, of Mabel, Minn., died Saturday, June 9, 2001 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford, Minn.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 12 from 4-8 p.m. at Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel with Rosary at 5 p.m. and a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church.

Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, June 13 at the St. Olaf Catholic Church in Mabel with Father Steve Peterson officiating.

Private family burial will be in St. Benedict's Catholic Cemetery. Mengis Funeral Home of Mabel is in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth J. McConnell was born March 10, 1931 in Decorah to Emmett and Anne (Fitzgerald) McConnell.

He attended school in Decorah and from 1951-1953 he served in the U.S. Army, where he worked as a mechanic and was stationed in Texas.

He married Eleanor Erickson Feb. 15, 1958 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Canton, Minn.

They lived and farmed in the Hesper, Iowa area. Kenneth also worked at DECO in Decorah for 29 years.

In 1992 they moved to Mabel and he worked for a short time at Woodland Industries in Caledonia, Minn., and at Wal-Mart in Decorah.

He was a member of St. Olaf Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and American Legion.

He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor McConnell of Mabel; two sons, Elroy (Charlene) McConnell of Prairie Du Chien, Wis., and Daniel (Corrine) McConnell of Stewartville, Minn.; a daughter Marie (Zane) Dubbels of Eyota, Minn., and six grandchildren.

Kenneth J. McConnell was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Donald McConnell.
