Lawrence Reichow

Lawrence Reichow, 94, of Decorah, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.

A Memorial Service was held on Friday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were James A. Weis, Joe Weis, Richard (Tip) Weis and Tom Weis.

Alan Sensor was the organist. Joan Schissel was the cantor. Soloist H. O. Christen sang "Ave Maria", and the congregation sang "How Great Thou Art", "Amazing Grace" and "Be Not Afraid".

Burial was at St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery, with Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah handling the arrangements.

Lawrence Reichow was born Sept. 19, 1906 in Farmington, Minn., son of Edward and Anna (Weisbrick) Reichow. He was a graduate of Farmington High School.

On Sept. 2, 1927, he married Dorothy G. Boyd in Farmington. The couple had three children.

Lawrence Reichow was the Maintenance of Way Foreman for Milwaukee Railroad for many years. After retirement, he enjoyed being at Weis Buick, fishing in Canada, traveling and being with his family and grandchildren.

Lawrence Reichow was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Decorah.

He had been a resident of the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah since January 22, 1997.

Surviving Lawrence Reichow are two sons and one daughter: William and Marcia Reichow of Monmouth, Illinois; Joan Franz of Iowa City and Jerry and Carolyn Reichow of Santa Fe, N. M.

Additional survivors include one sister, Gladys Thompson of Austin, Minn.; 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Lawrence Reichow was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy Reichow on Dec. 29, 1997, after 70 years of marriage, two brothers-in-law, Charles and Edward Boyd, one sister, Dorothy Anderson, one grandson, Lawrence Reichow, one granddaughter, Diane Reichow, one daughter-in-law, Barbara Reichow and one son-in-law, Jack Franz.
