Vincent Thomas Henry

Vincent Henry, 93, of Decorah, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah following a long illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating.

Music was provided by organist Alan Sensor and cantor Joan Schissel.

Casket bearers were Larry Karnik, Dr. Pat Henry, Bob Hageman, Joe Henry, Jerry Erdahl and Louis Donohue.

Interment was at the St. Benedict's Cemetery, Decorah. French & Balik Funeral Home of Decorah handled arrangements.

Vincent Thomas Henry was born Aug. 11, 1907 on a farm near Bluffton to John and Katherine (Sexton) Henry.

He attended country school, graduated from Notre Dame High School in Cresco, and graduated from Mankato Business College.

On Oct. 7, 1933, he married Mary T. Bresnahan at St. Raphael Cathedral in Dubuque.

From 1933 to 1940, the couple farmed near Decorah. From 1940 to 1942, they operated a hardware store in Caledonia, Minn. They moved back to Decorah to farm until they moved to the city of Decorah in 1973.

Henry kept busy doing woodworking, refinishing furniture, and working on gasoline engines. He and his wife also delivered Meals on Wheels.

He was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and the Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Henry of Decorah; one daughter, Betty (Irv) Hickey of Cedar Rapids; one granddaughter, Erin (Larry) Karnik of Cedar Rapids; and one great granddaughter, Bridget Karnik.

Vincent Henry was preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph Hickey; his parents; six brothers: John, Orvine, Paul, Herbert, Charles and Gerald; and one sister, Mary Moth
