Marcella Catherine Osmundsen
Marcella Catherine Osmundsen, 80, Decorah, died on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000 at the Aase Haugen Home following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services were held Monday, Oct. 23, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating.
Alan Sensor was the organist. Daryl Luzum was the cantor. Hymns were
"Amazing Grace", "I Have Loved You", "Come To The Water" and Let There Be Peace On Earth".Interment was at the St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery in Decorah, Iowa. The French & Balik Funeral Home of Decorah handled arrangements.
Marcella was born Oct 26, 1919 in Estherville, the daughter of John Martin and Rose (Bagan) Keifer.
She graduated from Estherville High School and the Des Moines Business School.
On Sept. 9, 1941 she married Wayne Osmundsen at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville.
While Wayne served in World War II, they moved to many different locations in the United States.
In 1945, they moved to Decorah and she worked for Peter Johnson as a bookkeeper and Dr. Larson for many years. She also worked for Montgomery Ward and the Aase Haugen Nursing Home as a bookkeeper. They hosted a foreign exchange student from Columbia.
Marcella and Wayne moved to a home on Booth Lake, Wis. from 1978 to 1981. They lived in Mason City in 1981-82 where they managed the KC Hall. And in 1983 they returned to Decorah.
Marcella was a member of the St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah, Sacred Heart Study Club, the BPW-Business and Professional Women, China Painting Club, many bridge clubs and a longtime member of the Oneota Golf and Country Club.
Marcella enjoyed her time with her grandchildren, playing bridge, moving, antiques, and she loved to go dancing.
Marcella took care of her husband Wayne at home and also while he was at the rest home.
Survivors include a daughter, Cathy and Bob Iverson, Blain, Minn.; and two sons, Marty Osmundsen and Norma "George" Hammon, LaCrosse, Wis.; and Tom Osmundsen, Villa Park, Illinois; five grandchildren, Erica, Cynthia and John Iverson, and William and Kristin Osmundsen, two sisters, Margaret Hoffman of Mason City and Helen O'Brien of Madison, Wis.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne on Aug. 26, 1996 and brothers John and Raymond Keifer.
