Magdalen E. Lang

Magdalen E. Lang, 89, of Decorah, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at the Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home.

A memorial service will be announced at a later time, to be held at the St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Gary Krapfl to officiate.

There is no visitation as the body was cremated. The Fjelstul Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Magdalen (Etzell) Lang was born Dec. 28, 1910, at Clarissa, Minn., the daughter of George and Ida (Hammer) Etzell.

Her education included the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn. Then she received her registered nurse training at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

She was married to Jerome "Jerry" V. Lang Sept. 27, 1934, in Clarissa, Minn.

Magdalen and her husband owned and operated Lang's Shoe Store in Decorah for many years.

She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic church. She had been a resident of the Barthell Eastern Star Home in Decorah since July of 1997.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry; two children, Maureen Alexander of Omaha, Neb., and Michael Lang of Decorah; one granddaughter and two great grandchildren, Molly Hansel of Omaha, Neb., and her children, Brandi and Jacob Hansel; and one brother, Maurice Etzell of Arlington, Va.

Magdalen Lang was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jim and George Etzell.
