David Kelly

David Kelly, 65, of Decorah, died Friday, March 31, 2000, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, of complications of leukemia.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 4, at 3 p.m., at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating.

Terry Kelly will be the lector. Mary Beth Bouska will be the organist. Joan Schissel will be the cantor. Steve Casterton will sing "The Lord's Prayer".

Congregational hymns will be "Be Not Afraid", "Hymn of Promise", "On Eagle's Wings" and "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling".

Casket bearers will be his children, Michael and Lori Kelly, Kristin and John Nystul, and Mary Beth and Jon Hebeisen. Honorary bearers will be all of his friends and co-workers.

Burial will be at the St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery in Decorah. The Fjelstul Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Visitation will be held Tuesday after 2 p.m., at the church.

David was born May 21, 1934, in Decorah, the son of William and Lucille (O'Brien) Kelly. He attended St. Benedicts Grade School and graduated from Decorah High School in 1952.

He then served in the United States Army. After the service, Dave attended Chicago Technical School.

He was united in marriage with Kathryn Ness Nov. 23, 1957, at St. Benedict Catholic Church.

After working for several years in the Decorah Post Office, Dave entered the real estate profession, where he had worked for 30 years. He owned and operated Dave Kelly & Co. Realtors and Contractors in Decorah.

Dave also was a member of Northeast Iowa Board of Realtors, Silvercrest Golf & Country Club, the Elks, the V.F.W. and St. Benedict Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn "Katie" of Decorah; their three children and seven grandchildren, Michael and Lori Kelly, Drew and Shana of Decorah, Kristin and John Nystul, Kari, Anna and Erik of Chanhassen, Minn., and Mary Beth and Jon Hebeisen, Samuel and Daniel of Chanhassen, Minn.; two brothers, Gene Kelly of Houston, Texas, and Terry and Alice Kelly of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Martha Borek of Seattle, Wash.; his mother-in-law, Laura Ness of Decorah; and many nieces and nephews.

Dave Kelly was preceded in death by his parents.
