Josephine Drew

Josephine Drew, 98, of Decorah died Tuesday, March 7, at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held Friday, March. 10, at 11 a.m., at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating.

Mary Beth Bouska was the organist. Joan Schissel was the cantor. Hyman's were "Here I Am Lord", "Be Not Afraid", "On Eagle's Wings" and "How Great Thou Art".

Casket bearers were Jeff Gagstetter, Ryan Gagstetter, Tom Woodhouse, Joshua Wenthold, Stephen Wenthold and Dennis Woodhouse.

Burial was at the church cemetery.The French & Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Josephine was born Jan. 28, 1902, in Winneshiek County, the daughter of John and Bridget (Carolan) Drew. She attended country school near Decorah and then the Visitation Academy in Dubuque for one year.

She then moved to Des Moines and worked for Dunn & Bradstreet for many years in their office.

Josephine retired in the 1960s and moved back to Decorah. She volunteered for RSVP and was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and St. Catherine's Circle. Hobbies included doing needlework, crocheting and crafts.

Survivors include one sister, Florence (Mrs. Ed) Wenthold of Decorah; three nieces and one nephew; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Josephine Drew was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Emmet Drew; and three sisters, Catherine O'Brien, Mary Woodhouse and Rose Drew.
