Death of Mrs. Charles McManus

Mrs. Charles McManus died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1924 at her home near Castalia. She was aged 85 years. Funeral services were held at Ossian with a requiem mass at the Catholic Church. Mrs. McManus six sons were the pall bearers.

Mary Ann Mulligan was born in County Termough, Ireland, August 8, 1839. When she was four years old her parents brought her to America, the family first settling at Benton, Wisconsin. Miss Mulligan became the bride of Charles McManus at Benton, March 7, 1858. Twelve children, six sons and six daughters, were born. Mr. and Mrs. McManus came to Winneshiek county soon after their marriage and began farming, enduring with great fortitude the hardships of pioneer life. Besides the six surviving sons she has two daughters, Mrs. Will Meyer of Clear Lake, Minn., and Mrs. Carl Bartell of Rochester, Minn., who were here for the funeral, which was held Wednesday morning at St. Frances de Sales chruch, Ossian.
