James Martin Henry

James Martin Henry, 85, of Decorah, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at the Green Lea Manor in Mabel, Minn., after a long illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 10, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating.

Alan Sensor was the organist. Joan Schissel and Theresa Lynch were the cantors.

Casket bearers were grandchildren Darin, Scott, Kim, Kristine, Mike, Craig and Steven Henry; Kathey Teff; Cindie, Tim and Ann Mooney; and Adam and Dan Martinson. Honorary bearers were Arnie Thompson, Mark Sutton, Bob Granger and Jim Dougherty.

Burial was at the church cemetery. The French & Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.

James was born May 30, 1913, in Canoe Township of Winneshiek County, the son of Thomas and Anna (Madden) Henry. He received his education in the local schools.

James was married to Mary Cronin May 17, 1938, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waucoma.

He lived all his life in Winneshiek County, where he farmed for 50 years.

James was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Decorah.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; four children, Joseph of Decorah, Noel of Fort Atkinson, Susann Mooney of Davenport and Martha Martinson of Decorah; 13 grandchildren, Darin, Scott, Kim, Kristine, Mike, Craig and Steven Henry; Kathey Teff; Cindie, Tim and Ann Mooney; and Adam and Dan Martinson; 10 great-grandchildren, Anthony, Danielle, Logan, Mason and Kendra Henry, Heather, Robbie, Bryce and Kaitlin Teff, and Keonna Flaskerud; one brother, John Henry of Decorah; and one sister, Nellie Donlon of Decorah.

James Henry was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Stella Henry; two brothers, Myles and Richard; and a grandson, Kevin Henry.
