FLORENCE STORTZ, 93, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 31, at 11 a.m., at St. Benedict Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 30, from 5-8 p.m., at the Fjelstul Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Florence Stortz, 93, of Decorah, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at the Aase Haugen Home.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 31, at 11 a.m. at the St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating.
Alan Sensor was the organist, with Joan Schissel as the cantor. The congregation sang "O Come, All Ye Faithful", "Away In the Manager", "Silent Night" and "Be Not Afraid".
Casket bearers were Carroll Lansing, Francis Stortz, Gerald Stortz, James Stortz, Randy Stortz and Walter Teslow.
Burial was at the St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Florence Theresa Stortz was born Aug. 9, 1905, in Canoe Township of Winneshiek County, the daughter of Charles and Louise (Schissel) Stortz.
She attended the rural schools of Canoe Township. She never married.
Florence worked for many years at The Band Box in Decorah, and in Kansas City she worked at Macy's. In Arlington, Va. she worked at Garfinckel's Department Store. She retired in 1972 and came back to Decorah. She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church.
She was the last surviving member of a family of 14 children. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. Leonard (Vera) Stortz of Waukon and a brother-in-law, Carl Lansing of LaCrosse, Wis., as well as 22 nieces and 11 nephews.
Florence Stortz was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers: Ernest in infancy, Theodore, Eugene, Louis, Carl, Leonard, Alfred and Raymond; and five sisters: Monica Lansing, Laura Stortz, Lucy Stortz, Mary Lansing and Lillian Collins.
