Robert Jewell Seim

Robert Seim, 79, of Decorah, Sunday, June 24, 2001 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 27 at 1:30 p.m. at Decorah Lutheran Church, with Rev's Ole Winter and Bryan Robertson officiating.

Organist was Kathy Murray, and soloist Elea Uhl sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "His Eye is on the Sparrow." The congregation sang "My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less" and "Amazing Grace."

Pallbearers were Gary Finholt, Steve Finholt, John Gipp, Harold Poppe, Scott Seim and Gavin Spilde.

Honorary Pallbearers were all members of the Helof-Holm V.F.W. Post No. 1977 in Decorah.

Burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery, with full military honors provided by Helof-Holm V.F.W. Post No. 1977, Bernatz-Symonds American Legion Post No.163 and D.A.V. Hamre-Giesen Chapter No. 8.

Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah handled arrangements.

Robert Jewell Seim was born Dec. 23, 1921 in Decorah the son of Lawrence (Helge) and Florence (Nelson) Seim.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Decorah Lutheran Church by Rev. Glesne. He attended the Decorah Schools.

Robert Seim was inducted into the U.S. Army Sept. 10, 1942. He served in the Infantry in the South Pacific and was given an Honorable Discharge Jan. 16, 1945.

He had been a member of the Helof-Holm V.F.W. Post No. 1977 in Decorah for 55 years.

Robert Seim had resided in the Aase Haugen Home, Decorah, for the past several years.

He enjoyed working with his cars and keeping a good appearance of his family home on Oak Street.

Robert Seim will be missed by many friends and relatives, especially by his nieces and nephews, who have recalled numerous childhood memories of him, including rides to the old East Side Luncheonette for afternoon treats,
funny conversations and his phenomenal memory of dates. They were among the few who were fortunate enough to hear and enjoy the harmonica music he played on his front porch.

Survivors include two brothers, Larry and Arlyne and Lester and Francis Seim, both of Decorah; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Seim of Decorah and Helen Seim of Ames; four nephews: Gary Finholt of Rochester, Minn.; Mark Finholt of Minneapolis, Minn.; Jeff and Holly Seim of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Scott Seim of Rochester and five nieces: Sheri and Tim Blumer of Cedar Rapids; Karen and John Gipp of Decorah; Shelley and Tim Cassidy of Columbus, Ohio; Becky and Jerry Timmons of Omaha, Neb. and Janet and David Bunker of Ames.

Robert Jewell Seim was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Lucille Ramus, Helen Finholt, Ruth Aakre and Francis Headington and by two brothers, James and Charles Seim.
