Beulah Christine Werhan
Beulah Werhan, 89, of Sacramento, Calif., and formerly of Decorah, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 at Mission Carmichael Nursing Home in Carmichael, Calif.
Visitation is Tuesday, Feb. 6 from 4-6 p.m. at Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah and Wednesday, Feb. 7 after 12 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Decorah.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. in the Fireside Room at First Lutheran Church, with Rev. Steven M. Jacobsen officiating.
Pianist will be Marcia Engebretson, and selected hymns include "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" and "Abide With Me."
Burial will be at Lutheran Cemetery, with Fjelstul Funeral Home handling arrangements.
Beulah Christine Lundby Werhan was born in Winneshiek County Jan. 14, 1912 to Josephine (Bakken) and Elling Lundby.
She was educated in Ridgeway schools and graduated from Cresco High School.
On May 17, 1933 she married LaVerne Werhan at Ridgeway Lutheran Parsonage with Rev. Jordahl officiating.
Beulah Werhan worked at various retail establishments in Decorah, her final position being Dorm Mother at Brandt Hall at Luther College. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, a member of Women of Moose Lodge and enjoyed handwork and cooking. She lived in Decorah from 1945 until 1988, when she moved to Sacramento.
Surviving Beulah Werhan are a son, Larry and Marjorie (Crookshank) Werhan of Sacramento and a daughter, John and Carol (Werhan) Cutting of Boiling Spring, Pa.; grandchildren Rick and Tracy (Werhan) Boggs of Granite Bay, Calif.; Dave and Terry (Werhan) Moore of Sacramento; Keri Cutting of Jacksonville, Fla.; and John and Abby Cutting of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and a
brother and sister, LaVohn (Lundby) Miller of Mesa, Ariz.; and Lorence and Mildred Lundby of Cresco.Beulah Christine Lundby Werhan was preceded in death by her parents, Elling and Josephine Lundby; her husband LaVerne Werhan, on July 12, 1986; one brother, Clarence Lundby; and one sister, Edna Lundby.
