Heather and Elizabeth Wilkins

Heather Wilkins, 21, and her sister, Elizabeth Wilkins, 19, both of Waukon, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001 as a result of a motor vehicle accident near Calmar.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. at Decorah Lutheran Church with Rev. James Glesne and Rev. Bryan Robertson officiating.

Music was provided by organist Kathy Murray and soloist and guitarist Ron Larson, who performed "The Dance," "Will the Circle be Unbroken" and "Amazing Grace." The congregation sang "Let There Be Peace On Earth," "What A Friend We Have in Jesus," "Children of the Heavenly Father" and "My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less." Special music included CD recordings of "Arms Wide Open", Elizabeth Wilkins' favorite song, and "Wind Beneath My Wings," Heather Wilkins' favorite song.

Casket bearers were Scott Grinna, Steve Klemme, Jim Lillibridge, Russell Wicks, Scott Hotvedt, Darin Bohr, Brian Hotvedt, Dave Rosburg, Dana Hotvedt and Ryan Rosburg.

Interment was at Lutheran Cemetery, with arrangements by French and Balik Funeral Home of Decorah.

Heather Nicole Wilkins was born April 13, 1979 in Decorah, the daughter of Dennis and Mimi (Grinna) Wilkins.

She graduated from Waukon High School in 1997, and attended Northeast Iowa Community College, graduating early with a Certified Nurses Aid degree.

Heather Wilkins worked as a C.N.A. at the Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home, and then took care of her grandpa and grandma Grinna for 1 1/2 years. She was then enrolled in social services classes at NICC.

Heather Wilkins enjoyed karaoke, tubing the Upper Iowa River, dancing, collecting angels, and was very devoted to older people. Her best friend was her sister, Elizabeth Wilkins.

Elizabeth Ann Wilkins was born Dec. 27, 1981, the daughter of Dennis and Mimi (Grinna) Wilkins of Decorah.

She graduated from Waukon High School in 2000 and started classes at Northeast Iowa Community College this past fall, enrolling in general education with aspirations of becoming a teacher.

She enjoyed karaoke, dancing, stock car racing and helping her brother, Chris Wilkins, on his pit crew.

Elizabeth Wilkins loved her animals, "Smokey" and "Pugs" and taking care of older people.

Heather and Elizabeth Wilkins are survived by their parents, Dennis and Mimi Wilkins of Waukon; one brother Christopher Wilkins of Waukon; grandparents Marlin Grinna and Eldean and Janet Wilkins, all of Decorah; a great-grandparent, Wilbur Wilkins of New Albin, Iowa; and several aunts, uncles, great-aunts and uncles, and many cousins and friends.

Also, surviving is Elizabeth Wilkins' special friend, Blair Cahoon of Waukon.

Heather Nicole Wilkins and Elizabeth Ann Wilkins were preceded in death by their grandmother, Vivian Grinna.

Services held for Heather and Elizabeth Wilkins
Funeral services for Heather Wilkins and her sister, Elizabeth Wilkins, both of Waukon were held on Tuesday, February 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah. Rev. James Glesne and Rev. Brian Robertson officiated. Interment was in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. French & Balik Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in memory of Heather and Elizabeth.
Heather age 21 and her sister, Elizabeth age 19, died on Friday, February 16, 2001 as a result of a motor vehicle accident near Calmar.. They were students at Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar and were traveling to Decorah after school.
Survivors include their parents: Dennis and Mimi Wilkins of Waukon; one brother: Christopher of Waukon; grandparents: Marlin Grinna of Decorah and Eldean and Janet Wilkins also of Decorah.
They were preceded in death by their grandmother: Vivian Grinna.
