Cliff E. Natvig

Cliff E. Natvig, 90, of Decorah, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m., at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Tom Miller officiating.

Private family burial will be at the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. The body was cremated. The Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly was in
charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the First Lutheran Church in Decorah or the Bartels Chaplaincy Fund.

Cliff was born Dec. 14, 1909, in Lawler, the son of Herman C. and Carrie (Slindee) Natvig. He attended and graduated from Lawler High School in 1928. Cliff then attended Luther College in Decorah.

In 1935, he purchased Adams Seed and Milling in Decorah. On April 30, 1936, he was united in marriage to Hazel Winger at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah. The couple remained living in Decorah, where Cliff opened a television and tire business for several years.

In the early 1970s, he retired from business and went to work as a security officer at Luther College. In April of 1999, Cliff and Hazel moved to the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.

Cliff was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Decorah, where he was a Sunday School teacher and served on various committees. He also participated in Boy Scouts, the Elks Club and was a member of Oneota Golf and Country club. He also enjoyed bowling and fishing, along with other sports. He was a member of the Decorah Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel of Waverly; four children and their spouses, Janet and Mike Dotseth of Waverly, Cliff Michael and Genny Natvig of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Marlene and Bob Wellner of Waverly, and Bruce and Donna Natvig of Cedar Falls; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gertrude Worcester of Decorah.

Cliff Natvig was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Herbert "Bud" Natvig.
