Theodore Herman Wangsness

Theodore Herman Wangsness, 92, of Decorah, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m., at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Thomas Miller officiating.

The Rev. Marion Miller was the organist. Soloist Marilyn Roverud sang "Come Unto Him." The congregation sang "Oh Come, Oh Come, Emmanuel" and "Children of the Heavenly Father".

Casket bearers were Donald Blegen, the Rev. Thomas Pietz, Harold Poppe, Gerald Roney, Lee D. Vangsness, Matthew Wangsness, Michael Wangsness and Marc Weigle.

Burial was at the Lutheran Cemetery. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Theodore Herman Wangsness was born July 8, 1907, the son of Herman and Hannah (Jorgenson) Wangsness, at their home in Springfield Township, Winneshiek County.

He graduated from Calmar High School in 1926, then attended Luther College for one year. Then he attended a business school in Cedar Rapids.

Theodore was married to Olga C. Lee Oct. 1, 1936, at Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Ted was a butter maker in Nordness and Waukon until 1948. Then they purchased the store that became Ted's Tobacco Store. He owned and operated that until 1972, when he retired.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Olga; one son David (Rita) Wangsness of Woodbury, Minn.; one daughter, Donna (James) Weigle of Golden Valley, Minn.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; Michael (Lori) Wangsness of Grand Forks, N. D., Matthew Wangsness of Woodbury, Minn., Kristi (Rev. Thomas) Pietz and Timothy and Daniel of Loveland, Colo., and Marc (Kirsten) Weigle and Nora of Minneapolis, Minn.; one brother, Erwin (Lorraine) Wangsness of Calmar and one sister, Elva Roney of Rochester, Minn.

Theodore Wangsness was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Beatrice Estrem and Viola Blegen; and one brother, Clifford.
