Arthur Benning, 73, of Ackley, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 27, at 10:30 a.m., at St. John's United Church of Christ in Ackley, with the Rev. Michael Dack officiating.

Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ackley. The Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home of Ackley handled arrangements.

Arthur W. Benning was born Jan. 16, 1926, on the family farm in Franklin County, the son of William and Pauline (Sailer) Benning.

He was baptized April 25, 1926, by the Rev. Sybold and confirmed Sept. 10, 1939, by the Rev. Sybold at St. John's United Church of Christ in Ackley.

He attended a rural school near Faulkner and after his eighth grade graduation, he helped his father on the farm.

He was married to Henrietta DeGroote Feb. 22, 1946, on the rural Franklin County farm of his parents. They farmed the home farm for 46 years, moving into Ackley in 1992. He also sold seed corn for Osgold and Asgrow for 25 years.

Art served on Church Council for three terms and served on various committees. He also served on a variety of councils and boards in Franklin County.

Survivors include his wife, Henrietta; one son, Keith and Darlene Benning of Ackley; one daughter, Karen and Steven Darrington of Mabel, Minn.; five grandchildren, Brad and Darin Benning of Ackley, Beth (Benning) and Matt Brinkman of Greene, and Sarah and Amy Darrington of Mabel, Minn.; one great-grandson, Collin Brinkman of Greene; and one sister, Susanna Henn of Hawkeye.

Arthur Benning was preceded am death by his parents.
