Joyce Austin

Joyce Austin, 74, of Hesper, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at her home.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m. at the Hesper Friends Church, with the Rev. Keith Mardock officiating.

Burial will be at the Hesper Public Cemetery.

The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel, Minn., is handling arrangements. Visitation will be held there Tuesday, Dec. 28, from 4-7 p.m. and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Joyce (Robinson) Austin was born Oct. 26,1925 in Hesper, the daughter of Ralph and Sidney (Barnhart) Robinson.

She attended school in Hesper and Mabel and graduated from Mabel (Minn.) High School in 1943.

On Jan. 1, 1955, she was married to Kenneth Austin in Preston, Minn.

They lived in the Mabel and Hesper areas their entire lives.

Joyce worked at Jim's Cafe and the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel. She attended the Hesper Friends Church. Her hobbies included reading and crossword puzzles.

Survivors include one son, Gregg of Hesper; a, daughter Colleen and Gary Nelson of Mabel, Minn.; two grandchildren, Tara Nelson of Waukon and Tory Nelson of Mabel, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Joyce Austin was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, who died Feb. 24, 1985; her parents; and three sisters, Jean Foltz, Bette Schmidt and Marian Homrighouse.
