Leona Goodyear

Leona Goodyear, 76, of Decorah, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at the Aase Haugen Home.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 4, at 11 a.m., at Decorah Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Tim Tostengard and Ole Winter officiating.

Diane Kvamme was the organist. Arlene Foltz, the soloist, sang "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art."

Casket bearers were Greg Eide, Mark Faldet, Doug Nelson, Greg Tiburzi, Dr. David Heine and David Graham.

Honorary bearers were Fritz and Loma Carlson, Keith and Martha Howard, John and Ann Gesme, and Henry and Barb Montgomery.

Burial was at the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Leona (Steelman) Goodyear was born May 5, 1923, in Rockford, the daughter of Luther C. and Fannie (Davis) Steelman. She was a graduate of Hampton High School.

She married Jay W. Goodyear July 17, 1941.

Leona worked for Luther College for 28 years as a mailing coordinator in the admissions office.

She was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church.

She had been a resident of the Aase Haugen Home since Sept. 30, 1999.

Survivors include two children, Ronald Goodyear of Decorah and Dennis Goodyear of Independence; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Lester Steelman of Adel, Forrest Steelman of Winnebago, Minn, and Richard Steelman of Fort Dodge and one sister, Nellie Dickson of San Antonio, Texas.

Leona Goodyear was preceded in death by her husband, who died March 8, 1988; her parents; one daughter; one son; three brothers, Bernard, Bob and Roy; and two grandsons.
