Ella B. Kirkeby

Ella B. Kirkeby, 93, of Decorah, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, at the Aase Haugen Home.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 3, at 11 a.m., at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Steven Jacobsen officiating.

The Rev. Marion Miller was the organist. The congregation sang "Abide With Me".

Casket bearers were Bill, Rich, Mark, Danny, David and Eric Kirkeby. Honorary bearers were Cindy Kirkeby, Kara Wilkins, Brenda Kirkeby, Regina Kirkeby and Owen Wilkens.

Burial was at the Pontoppidan Cemetery in rural Decorah. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements

Ella (Vangen) Kirkeby was born Sept. 30, 1906, in Union Prairie Township, Allamakee County, the daughter of Elling and Bertha (Skaim) Vangen. She attended rural schools.

She was married to Henry M. Kirkeby Jan. 30, 1930 at the Pontoppidan Lutheran parsonage. They lived in Waukon until 1963, then they moved to Decorah.

Ella was a member of First Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three sons, Everett and Kathryn Kirkeby of Waukon, Harlan and Louise Kirkeby of Decorah, and Wayne Kirkeby of Decorah; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The grandchildren are Bill Kirkeby of Waukon, Rich Kirkeby of Johnston, Cindy Kirkeby of Waukon, Mark and Brenda Kirkeby of Frankville, Danny and Regina Kirkeby of Decorah, Kara and Owen Wilkins of Bartlett, IL, David Kirkeby of Gilbert, Ariz., and Eric Kirkeby of Decorah.

Great-grandchildren are Ben, Alex, Jennifer, Mindy, Bradlye, Morgan, Dustin, Lacy and Devon.

Ella Kirkeby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry, who died Dec. 21, 1981; a daughter, Delores, who died when she was 2-1/2; one daughter-in-law, Linda Kirkeby; two sisters, Ida Halverson and Minnie Ford; three brothers, Pete, Edgar and Adolph Vangen; and by two brothers and one sister, who died in infancy.
