Dale Arthur Leibold
Dale Arthur "Gramps" Leibold, 46, of Decorah, died Sunday, April 23, 2000 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 26, at 11 a.m., at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Steven Jacobsen officiating.
The Rev. Marion Miller was the organist. Congregational hymns were "Amazing Grace," "Children of the Heavenly Father" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic."
Casket bearers were Platoon Sergeant Kenneth Larson; Cadet Daniel Walter; Staff Sergeants Jon Gerholdt and Brian Losen; Sergeants Devon Henning, Tor. Roppe and Travis Fox; and Specialist Bobby Cline.
Honorary bearers were all members of Company B, 389th Engineer Battalion, Decorah.
Burial was at the Lutheran Cemetery with full military rites. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements. A V.F.W. memorial service was held at Fjelstul's at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 25.
Dale was born June 7, 1953, at Decorah, the son of Arthur A. and Marlis (Gabrielson) Leibold. His mother, Marlis Zweibohmer, lives in Decorah.
Dale graduated from Decorah High School in 1973. He joined the United States Army in December of 1972. He served in Honduras, Germany, Korea and Grenada.
He became a Sergeant, then was given an honorable discharge in December of 1982. Dale then joined the Army Reserves, in which he continued to be active. He served in the military a total of 27 years.
He had been working since 1991 at Featherlite in Cresco as a skilled, detail carpenter.
Dale was a member of First Lutheran Church in Decorah and the V.F.W. He enjoyed camping, playing pool, stock car racing and being with friends. He was a good artist and enjoyed drawing. He is remembered as a friend to all.
Survivors include his mother, Marlis Zweibohmer of Decorah; two brothers, Richard and Arlene Leibold of Onalaska, Wis., and Bruce and Sally Leibold of Decorah and children Ben, Andy and Amanda; and two sisters, Mabel and Herman Foster of Austin, Minn. and children Roberta, Wayne, Wesley and Willie; and Diane Leibold and Matt Gleisner of Geneva.
Dale "Gramps" Leibold was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Leibold; Grandpa Gilbert and Grandma Louise Gabrielson; and his step-father, Harold "Chuck" Zweibohmer.
