Olga Gabrielson

Olga Christine Gabrielson, 100, of Decorah, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at the Aase Haugen Home.

Funeral services were held Saturday May 20, at 1:30 p.m., at the Decorah Lutheran Church, with the Revs. James Glesne and Tim Tostengard officiating.

Diane Kvamme was the organist. Arlene Foltz was the soloist on "Den Store Hvide Flok". Congregational hymns were "What A Friend We Have in Jesus" and "My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less."

Casket bearers were James Dawley, Mark Dawley, Steven Dawley, Michael Halse, Perry Halse and Arvin Ringen. Michael Dawley was an honorary bearer.

Burial was at the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Olga Gabrielson was born Dec. 24, 1899, in Spillville, the daughter of Jacob and Gertrude (Albertson) Gabrielson.

She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. She attended the rural schools of Winneshiek County and graduated from 8th grade.

Both before and after marriage, Olga helped people in their homes. Her hobbies were crocheting and embroidering. She always enjoyed traveling with her husband, as well as walking, horseback riding, gardening and flowers.

On May 29, 1918, she was married to Daniel A. Gabrielson. Olga was a homemaker. She lived most of her life in Canoe Township, Winneshiek County, and later in Decorah.

She was an active member of Decorah Lutheran Church. Since Jan. 27, 1993, Olga had been a resident at the Aase Haugen Home.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Olga Gabrielson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Daniel, who died Sept. 28, 1991; their one son, Arthur, who died June 25, 1944, in service during World War II; four sisters, Martha Halse, Johanna Severtsgaard, Dena Rhiele and Anna Merritt; and by two brothers, Gilbert and Albert Gabrielson.
