Lenna Erickson

Lenna Erickson, 90, of Decorah, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at the Aase Haugen Home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 16, at 11 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, Locust, with the Rev. John Mayer officiating.

Jennifer Little was the organist. Steve Casterton sang "Amazing Grace" and "The Lord's Prayer." Congregational hymns were "On Eagles Wings" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus."

Casket bearers were Gary, Steven, David and Brian Bjerke, and Julie, Thomas, Bruce and Janet Hovey. Honorary bearers were Eric Bjerke and
Mark Erickson.

Burial was at the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Lenna (Young) Erickson was born Sept. 2, 1910, in rural Decorah, the daughter of Jacob and Mary (Barth) Young. She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church and confirmed at Decorah Lutheran Church.

She attended rural schools in Winneshiek County, followed by one year at Decorah High School.

Lenna was married to Earl L. Erickson March 14, 1927, at the Decorah Lutheran parsonage.

They farmed until 1980, then moved into Decorah. Lenna was at the Aase Hauges Home the past two months. She was Lutheran in faith and was active in the ELCW and church circles of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two children, Marlys Bjerke of Spring Grove, Minn., and Roger Erickson of Marion; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lydia Sherwin and Julia Bergsrud, both of Decorah.

Lenna Erickson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl, who died Jan. 14, 1982; her daughter, Lois Hovey; a grandson, Dennis Hovey; a great-grandson, Jason Bjerke; two sisters, Clara Solem and Amelia Sande; and one brother, Roy Young.
