Arnold Kraby 1918-1999

Arnold L. Kraby, 81, of Apple Valley, Minn., died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at the Apple Valley Health Care Center of complications of Parkinson's Disease.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m., at Decorah Lutheran Church, with the Revs. James Glesne and Tim Tostengard officiating.

Diane Kvamme will be the organist. Soloist Wayne Mitchell will sing "Den Store Hvide Flok." The congregation will sing "Abide With Me" and "The Old Rugged Cross."

Burial will be at the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. The Fjelstul Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be held at the church Tuesday after 10 a.m. Memorials may be given to the Parkinson Foundation, or to the donor's choice.

Arnold was born April 23, 1918, in Decorah, the son of Albert and Mabel (Iverson) Kraby. He was baptized and confirmed at Decorah Lutheran Church and he graduated from Decorah High School in 1935.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II, aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Bullard as a Chief Yeoman, and at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, naval base.

Arnold married Marjorie Rima in January of 1942.

He worked for Boss Hotels, the Winneshiek in Decorah, and the Hotel Savery in Des Moines. He attended American Institute of Business in Des Moines and was hired there by Winston-Newell.

He later transferred to Minneapolis (Minn.) Super Valu home office and remained there until his retirement in 1969.

Survivors include his two sons, David and Jody Kraby of Harrisburg, Pa., and Donald Kraby of Apple Valley, Minn.; one daughter, Jeanne and David Swanson of Eagan, Minn.; their mother; Marjorie Kraby of Apple Valley, Minn.; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth and Jack Gay of Sparks, Nev., and Esther and Arnold Thompson of Decorah.

Arnold Kraby was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Norris in infancy and Kenneth; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Kraby; and one grandson, Christopher David Kraby.
