Funeral services for Laura Szabo were held Wednesday, January 23, 1985 at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia. The Rev. H. W. Wolfgram officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Bloomfield Cemetery.

Laura Augusta Szabo, daughter of Henry and Augusta (Kludt) Reisner, was born August 28, 1897 at West Union, Iowa. She died January 20, 1985 at the home of her daughter, Agnes, in Castalia.

She was baptized as an infant into the Lutheran faith and confirmed April 9, 1911 at the Lutheran Church, Hawkeye. Laura attended the rural schools of Fayette County.

On February 27, 1921 she was married to Steve Szabo at West Union. To this union twelve children were born. They lived in Oelwein for a short time and then moved to Castalia where she has lived for the last 25 years.

Surviving are 7 sons, Victor, William and Robert of Castalia; Eugene and Leon of Postville; Edward of Monona and Dayle of Cedar Rapids; 4 daughters, Darlene Schultz of Decorah; Agnes (Mrs. Earl Smith) of Castalia; Marilyn (Mrs. Duane Wander) of Riverside, California; and Dianne (Mrs. Robert Meyer, Jr.) of Postville; and 31 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and a brother, Ted Reisner of West Union.
