Harold Vine

Harold Vine, 72, of Waukon, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m., at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon with the Rev. David Schafer officiating.

Casket bearers will be Duane Vine, Brian Snyder, Randy Vine, Cal Drew, Dan Treangen and James Esser.

Honorary bearers will be Donnie and Norma Halse, Richard and Barb Hammel, Harlan and JoAnn Vine, Duane and Rita Snyder, Richard and Doris Lomen, and Roger and Claudia Kerndt.

Burial will be at the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. The Martin Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Harold was born March 31, 1926, on the rural Winneshiek County farm of his parents, Hjalmer and Ida (Moen) Vine. He was baptized and confirmed in Decorah and attended rural Winneshiek County schools.

On Oct. 22, 1949, he was united in marriage with Clara Lucille Ness at the
First Lutheran Church in Decorah.

Together they farmed in rural Decorah for 27 years before moving to Waukon in 1977. They then worked as custodians for Waukon State Bank for eight years.

Harold was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing cards and had a great appreciation for nature and the farming life he lived.

Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn and Paul Rover of Greene, Diane and Ted Jacobsen of Coralville, and Sharon and Greg Mitchell of Decorah; a sister, Irene Drew of Decorah; a brother, Donny and Ruth Vine of Waukon; four granddaughters, Andrea Rover, Teresa and Allison Mitchell, and Emily Jacobsen; one grandson, Eric Jacobsen; friends Norma and Donnie Halse; and many other friends and relatives.

Harold Vine was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara; and two brothers, Raymond and Roger Vine.

Memorials may be made in Harold's memory to St. John's Lutheran Church.
