Grace Frye

Grace Euphamie Frye, 90, of Decorah, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 26, at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Steven Jacobsen officiating.

The Rev. Marion Miller was the organist. The congregation sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Jesus Loves Me."

Casket bearers were Clair Borseth, Robert Denk,Tony Larson, Melvin Noecker, Vernon L. Olson and Bud Sacquitne.

Burial was at the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Grace (Dinger) Frye was born Dec. 20, 1908, at home in Bluffton township, Winneshiek County, the daughter of William and Maggie (Stevenson) Dinger.

She was baptized at the Methodist Church in 1909 and confirmed at First Lutheran in 1933.

While attending rural school, at the age of 8, her mother died. So Grace had to quit school at age 9 to help out at home. She had one sister, Dorothy, who died at age 1, and a brother, Roy.

On Oct. 11, 1928, Grace was married to Eber Convenzle Frye at Preston, Minn. Born to this union was one daughter, Margaret "Maggie" and a son, who died at birth.

Grace was a homemaker. Eber and Grace ran the City Cab Co. in Decorah. After retiring, they moved to a farm in Canoe Township of Winneshiek County where Grace gardened, raised Siamese cats, lambs, chickens, goats and one cow for milk.

Grace enjoyed dancing. After her husband's death, she was active in the Senior Citizen's Center in Decorah. She also was quite active in First Lutheran Church, and the "Do Day" quilt makers, where they made quilts for Lutheran World Relief.

Grace resided at Oneota Riverview Care Facility for four years, and at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon for four months.

Survivors include her daughter, Margaret "Maggie" and Andrew Borske of Decorah; grandchildren Lindy Borske-Hubbard and husband Steve of Decorah and Marty Borske of Mason City; and two great-grandchildren, Mike and Dan Hubbard.

Grace Frye was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eber, who died in 1963; one son at birth; one grandson, Michael in 1973; one sister, Dorothy at age 1; and her brother, Roy.
