Myron Henningsgaard

Myron Telford Henningsgaard, 85, of rural Decorah, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at the Palmer Lutheran Health Care Center in West Union after a short illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 13, at 11 a.m., at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Thomas Miller officiating.

The Rev. Marion Miller was the organist. Hymns were "How Great Thou Art" and "My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less."

Casket bearers were Ryan Henningsgaard, Donnie Henningsgaard, Howard Henningsgaard, Tom Berns, Carrol Solum and Gary Knutson.

Burial was at the Lutheran Cemetery, in Decorah. The French & Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Myron was born Aug. 31, 1913, in Hesper Township, Winneshiek County, the son of Ole and Sophia (Selness) Henningsgaard.

He was baptized Oct. 19, 1913 and confirmed May 15, 1927. He graduated from Hesper Country School.

On Oct. 1, 1942, Myron and Irene Engen were married at the Lutheran
parsonage by the Rev. T. A. Hoff. To this union one son was born, Roger.

Myron worked as a carpenter for Sig Hanson and Albert Hendrickson for several years; at Luther College and Aase Haugen Home in maintenance; and, until retiring, he worked at Oneota Golf Course as groundskeeper.

Myron enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, doing lawn care, telling jokes and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Irene; their son, Roger and Lynn Henningsgaard of Decorah; two sisters, Amanda Henningsgaard of Milwaukee, Wis., and Viola and Frank Toth, also of Milwaukee; one brother, John Henningsgaard in California; a granddaughter, Jo Ann and Tom Berns in Luana; a grandson, Ryan Henningsgaard of Decorah; and one great-grandson, Dylan Berns.

Myron Henningsgaard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Harold, Arnold, Olaf, Lee and Clarence; sisters Gladys Weisbecker and Ruth Heuss; and brothers-in-law Selvin and Arnold Engen
