ELLA HOSTING, 82, of Fort Atkinson, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis., as the result of injuries from an automobile accident near West Union, that same day.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 16, at 11 a.m., at St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. The Chekal Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Survivors include one son, Clair Hosting of Fort Atkinson; three daughters, Bernadette Leibold of Lawler, Mary Jo Irgens of Ida Grove and Sue Pollard of Boone; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Claudia Noel of Hawkeye; and four brothers, Edmund Goerend of St. Lucas, Frank Goerend of Dewey, Okla., Duane Goerend of Salina, Kan., and Fred Goerend of Sacramento, Calif.

Ella Hosting

Ella Hosting, 82, of Fort Atkinson, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wis., as the result of injuries suffered in a car accident earlier that day.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 16, at 11 a.m., at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, with the Rev. Allen Schmitt officiating.

The St. John's adult choir provided special music. Casket bearers were Lyle, Craig and Alan Hosting, Jason Pollard, Ron Leibold and Todd Irgens.

Burial was at the church cemetery in Fort Atkinson. The Chekal Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Ella Katherine (Goerend) Hosting was born Aug. 10, 1916, at St. Lucas, the daughter of Dominic and Philomena (Croatt) Goerend. She attended parochial school in St. Lucas.

She was united in marriage with Clair Hosting Dec. 23, 1936, in St. Lucas. Ella and her husband spent their early years farming in the Waucoma area.

They moved to Fort Atkinson in 1952. They owned and operated Hosting's Grocery Store in Fort Atkinson from 1964-81

Ella was a member of St. John's Church and the St. John's Guild.

Survivors include four children, Bernadette and Don Leibold of Lawler, Mary Jo and Herbert Irgens of Ida Grove, Sue and Jim Pollard of Boone, and Clair and Bernice Hosting of Fort Atkinson; 15 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Edmund Goerend of St. Lucas, Frank Goerend of Dewey, Okla., Duane Goerend of Salina, Kan., and Fred Goerend of Sacramento, Calif.; and a sister, Claudia Noel of Hawkeye.

Ella Hosting was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clair, who died Dec. 13, 1980; a grandson, John Hosting; and a sister, Lucille Segebarth.
